The Church of the Nazarene is a missional church and we believe it is necessary and beneficial to be involved in missions around the globe. Nazarenes are becoming a sent people—into homes, work places, communities, and villages as well as other cities and countries. Missionaries are now sent from all regions of the world. God continues calling ordinary people to do extraordinary things made possible by the person of the Holy Spirit.
Starting back in 2012, a group from Pleasant Grove Nazarene went to feed the Homeless with 60 sandwiches and two bags of clothes. We were so overcome with the needs in Birmingham, we have dedicated our time to serve the homeless the first Saturday of every month.
Pleasant Grove Nazarene has partnered with several local schools to distribute food packs to children who are using the National School Lunch Assistance Program. Food can be brought by the church during normal office hours Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 2pm. You may also bring items by during any service times as well. In addition to the school year, during holidays and summer periods, we send a request to see if any children would like to be inclusive of the program directly outside of school.
Pleasant Grove Nazarene has partnered with Samaritan's Purse International Relief for their ministry project known as Operation Christmas Child. From children to seniors, people pack shoebox gifts each year to bless children in need around the world. Churches and groups of all sizes collect boxes from their communities. These boxes hold gifts from medium to large “wow” item such as a soccer ball with pump or stuffed animal, then fill with other fun toys, hygiene items, and school supplies. Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ. The organization serves the Church worldwide to promote the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery by which traffickers profit from the control and exploitation of others. Trafficking in persons is a crime against humanity and ultimately a sin. Human trafficking denies the values of human life, exposes victims to serious health risks, endangers the mental well-being of victims and impedes the ability of victims to reach their full God-given potential.
As Christians, we believe that every human being is created in the image and likeness of the divine Creator, of God. At PGN, we have joined with other churches & organizations to make a stand against the treatment of humans being sold as slaves.
